The Banana Belt! That is why some of the best fruit is raised here, because it is so warm at this end of the valley, but why? I have heard it said that thermal winds that are caused by the changes in temperatures over the day force the wind to be compressed into and through DeBeque Canyon at the top end of the Grand Valley, causing the air involved to be heated due to friction. That is interesting, yet it could also be that Palisade is sheltered yet open to direct sun also, and being the high side, hot air will rise.
What ever the reason, they really bank on the best peaches and grapes through out the land, and celebrate this with Peach and Wine Festivals that attract visitors from through out the world.
Despite this world fame, Palisade maintains its small town feel and when walking its down town shopping area you will soon feel like you are part of the community as folks greet you on the street. |
